Apparantly the saying says something banal like the lowest form of flattery.

Personally I`d rather be flattered than battered.

Talking of batter, I`m hungry and I haven`t had a proper meal for over 36 hours, so I am waiting for a chicken bhuna, keema naan and onion bhajis to arrive.

I`d prefer to be fattered than battered, but given that I am geting thinner by the day then that is not likely.
