The Ace Face.

"Here by the sea and sand, nothing ever goes as planned" - is a lyric from Sea and Sand from my favourite all time album, Quadraphenia by The Who.

So, when our bassist Mike, called late last night to invite me to go with him to the Ace Cafe Reunion at Brighton today I decided it was time to do something spontaneous and different and experience a bit of fun at the same time.

As such we cruised into Brighton this morning on Mike`s immaculate Harley Davidson Road King and spent the day looking at some of the most amazing motorbikes and scooters.

Now the last time I had been on the back of any motorbike was when I was abot 11 years old and Mr.D used to take me to junior school on his Puch 175, ( a rare breed, but beautifully marked!) and so, when all the other kids were walking, cycling or catching the school bus to school yours truly arrived like a mini Fonzie, which really pi**ed off all of my mates, but gave me great cred with the ladies!

So today when Mike arrived, although I didn`t say it I am sure he could see my eyes pleading with him to be gentle with me!

The main reason why I have not been on a bike in all that time is because I lost a few friends in their teens through accidents, and this scared me off them I suppose. It wasn`t that I didn`t trust myself, but more the case that there are so many other lunatics out there on the road, and as we all know, when you are hit on a bike its your bodywork that gets dented!

However that still doesn`t stop me appreciating a beautiful machine and there were so many there today. Also today was the first time I had been on a Harley, and I have to say, it was gorgeous.

So along with some strange people that were there today I thought this was a bit odd, but given my reservetions about motorbikes I am sure they provide a necessary service. They are, should you require them "The final resting place for Temporary Citizens."

For, as their strapline says, "A dignified final ride."

So for another song from the set, it has to be from The Who - "The Kids are Alright"

We are the Mods, we are the Mods, we are, we are, we are the Mods!
